Lake Manyara National Park offers a wilderness experience in diverse habitats, from its Rift Valley soda lake to dense woodlands and steep mountainsides. Apart from a spectacular setting, the park is famous for its unusual tree-climbing lions and the vast elephant herds it was established to protect. The shores of the lake, encrusted with pink flamingo, attract more than 400 species of birds, many of them waterfowl or migrants. Large herds of buffalo, cheetah, Masai giraffe and impala roam the lake shores and the forested valley slopes. A Lake Manyara safari is a fascinating experience as the park also features a ground-water forest; acacia tortilis woodland and hot springs called Maji Moto.

Day 3.

Check out of Lake Manyara Tree Lodge and start the drive through the Ngorongoro Highlands, continuing onto the gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this is the end of the tarmac road, after a brief stop for permit checks, (all handled by your guide) and yet another convenience stop if required.
You will skirt the rim and drive to Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. The Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, within the Serengeti is home to more than 30 000 protected animals. It is an area of spectacular beauty and excellent game viewing, a truly unique safari destination in Africa. The Ngorongoro Crater, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 metre deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Fresh springs and a large soda lake quench the thirst of all the inhabitants. Black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingos crowd the soda lakes.

Indulge at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge for 2 nights in a suite with ensuite bathroom with bath and shower.

Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives and laundry.

Perched on the edge of the Crater rim, &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge’s sumptuous safari suites present breathtaking views. Inspired in design by the Maasai mud and stick manyatta (homestead), this is without doubt one of the most architecturally spectacular safari lodges in Africa. Three separate and intimate camps are reminiscent of a bygone era totaling just 30 suites in all. Steeped in romance, each stilted, handcrafted mud and thatch suite is adorned with graceful antiques and grand chandeliers. The bedroom, sitting room and ensuite bathroom boast floor-to-ceiling glass windows, overlooking the magnificent Crater below. Ensuite bathrooms, with a centerpiece of red roses, feature huge showers and chandelier-lit bathtubs. Personal butlers discreetly tend to guests’ every need, bringing tea in bed, stoking fireplaces and drawing luxurious baths. Described as “Maasai meets Versailles”, each camp has its own guest sitting and dining areas and viewing decks. The domed dining room, with its grand fireplace, turns every meal into a special occasion.

Enjoy sundowner cocktails and delicious snacks whilst treated to an awe-inspiring view of the Ngorongoro Crater on the one side and the Serengeti plains on the other with 20 Maasai warriors entertaining guests.

Day 4.

Typically enjoyed after the Maasai Guard of Honor ceremony, the domed dining area is magically transformed into an elegant banquet fit for a king and queen. The long, chandelier-lit dining table, adorned with white linen, candles and bouquets of red roses, is surrounded by a carpet of brightly colored rose petals. This is the height of elegance and romance. At each guest’s place setting, a single red rose sits on top of a beautifully presented menu card. A sumptuous meal, prepared by expert chefs, is then served by attentive butlers.

Day 5.

Make your way back up the ascent road and drive down off the Western edge of the crater onto the Serengeti plains. This is your long transit day; we will ensure that you have a picnic lunch with you together with plenty of drinks. Stop at Oldupai Gorge Visitors’ Centre and paleontological area. The site curator gives visitors a brief history of the area which is where the skull of ‘Zinjanthropus’- early man – was unearthed. It is quite fascinating to see this if you are interested.

Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti is located in the centre of the Serengeti National Park, with a waterhole adjacent to the lodge.
